Exhibition Text
Love even with cancer was inspired by Vincent Van Gogh and my mother. I used Vincent Van Gogh for his detail and texture in his work and I used my mom because she died from cancer. This represents that even when someone has cancer you can still love them no matter what. Also that cancer shouldn't stop you from loving a person. This title tells people and shows people to love someone even if they have cancer. The title came from my back story with my mom.

Planning
Inspiration My inspiration was from Vincent Van Gogh and how he used detail and texture in his work. The idea for my piece came from my mother and how i still had love for her even when she had cancer. I just wanted to show people that you shouldn't stop loving someone even if they had cancer or if they are going through something else. I used Vincent Van Gogh's detail form his work because it shows that even on the roughest days you can still love someone. I also used the grey because my mother had brain cancer. |
The cancer symbol was an inspiration. My mother had brain cancer and died from it when I was fifteen. This symbol shows support and the meaning behind what I did. The symbol shows that they are not alone and there are people behind you to support.

Planning Sketches
This sketch is the sketch I decided to do but it took me awhile to think about what I really wanted to do. I added things into this sketch like a rainbow and flowers but for my final idea I decided to take out the flowers and the rainbow and just leave the hearts and the symbol. This is the only sketch I did because I knew already what I wanted to do.

Process
Experimentation I only had to do one ink print because I liked how it turned out because it had the right amount of ink on it and it showed the detail and picture i wanted to show. I took me awhile to smooth out the ink but in the end I liked how my piece turned out. I experimented using different carving tools while I was carving out the areas I didn't want and I decided to use the v-shaped carving tool because it made the smooth but rough edges I wanted and was easier to use for my piece. It also helped me to carve around the hearts and the symbol. |
Process
First, I redrew my sketch onto the material with my pencil and added anything I needed to before I started carving. It took me some time to redraw the symbol because it needed to be in the center of the material in order for it to look right and for me to add the hearts.
Then I began to carve out the areas I didn't want to be shown and left the areas that I wanted to have black and show in my piece. I used a small carving tool first to get around all the details and then I began using the v-shaped carving tool to get the details and the texture.
Finally I started the inking process. I got the ink bored and began to put the Block Print ink on it. I then used a roller and rolled the ink evenly so I could get an even amount of ink on the roller. I then rolled the ink onto the Block Print and put a piece of print paper over it I also put a piece of newsprint over it so I could protect the paper. Finally I used a baren to rub the ink onto the print paper. After rubbing it for about 2 minutes I took the paper and the newsprint off the block print and set the print paper in the drying rack.

Reflection
I'm very happy with how my product came out. There weren't any problems with me making it or printing it. I really liked how the cancer symbol came out and if I could I would go back and re-do the hearts because some of them didn't turn out the way I wanted them to. Overall I think I did a good piece and I'm very happy with how it all turned out. It was very helpful using the carving tools and the carving board to help make this piece the way I wanted it to be. Overall the piece makes me happy about how it turned out and I'm happy with how the inking and the carving came out.

ACT Responses
Clearly explain how you are able to identify the cause-effect relationships between your inspiration and its effect upon your artwork:
Vincent Van Gogh's work has a lot of detail and texture in it and it took me awhile to make sure I made the details and texture the way his work looked. Also the cancer symbol really wasn't that hard to draw and make the symbol look like it was a ribbon.
What is the overall approach (pov) the author (from research) has regarding the topic of your inspiration?
The artist wanted to make his work look real but also make it look like they were looking outside or inside. My artist also wanted to add detail to show that it wasn't just a simple painting, but that it looked like it was moving and you could reach out and touch it.
What kind of generalizations and conclusions have you discovered about people, ideas, cultures, etc. while you researched your inspiration?
Impressionism shows more outside images and real life places with people and buildings. It shows that art is everywhere and everywhere you look is art.
What was the central idea or theme around your inspirational research?
The theme around my research was family and learning that you can still love someone even if something happened to them or if they have something like cancer or a sickness.
What kind of inferences did you make while reading your research?
I can infer that Impressionist is more about places and family and how detail is very important to artist.
