Eye See You
Exhibition Text
Eye See You is a digital collage that uses a person’s eye as the Earth. I wanted to create this piece to show that there is always someone watching people and watching every move they make. People always have the sense that someone is watching them and it’s true there is someone always watching. The inspiration for this piece was Salvador Dali also me because I always knew that people were watching me when I did something. I also used Rene Magritte. I wanted to incorporate all my inspiration into one piece.
Meaning
The meaning behind this piece is that people are always watching someone. People could be doing something and people would be watching because they want to keep an eye on that person or they are just interested in what they are doing. People always have the feeling of being watched and there is always someone watching them. I want the meaning to be what people think it is when they see the piece but the real meaning is that someone is always watching. The whole meaning behind the piece is that no matter what you do there is always someone watching.
Artist Inspiration
My inspiration for this piece is Salvador Dali and Rene Magritte. Salvador Dali was an inspiration because he uses Surrealism work and makes things come to life when he creates a piece. I also used Rene Magritte because of his work with the eye. I used him because he was able to use an eye and make it into a piece that would catch people’s attention and that’s what I wanted to do. I used Dali and Magritte because they both use Surrealism art and they both were able to fit around what I wanted to do and the meaning I wanted behind the work. I wanted to incorporate both artists because of how well their works tie to what I want to do and what my meaning was around the work.
Planning
The first thing I did was plan out what background I wanted to have and what eye I wanted to use. I also made a couple planning sketches to go with what I wanted to do. I made three different sketches to make sure I wanted to do the final sketch. I wanted to make sure that the idea I chose made sure to show the meaning and make sure that the final piece looked the way I wanted it to.
Process
Reflection
Overall I really like this project because it shows people that there is always an eye on you and that it captures the real meaning of the piece. The only thing I would change is the way I made it because it took awhile to make sure that the eye matched up with the earth and that they outline if the eye was clean. I had a hard time putting the eye onto the other image but after trying it for awhile I was able to get it and make it look clean. I would also change the background because the white line in the back makes it look like this was a picture of paper that was ripped. After the project was done I liked the way it turned out and I would do something like this again, but just with a different idea.
