Critique
This critique helped me a lot because my group gave me good advice and good feedback. They told me that I should use 3 D objects and show that this is what people want a boy and girl to look like. This critique helped me make my project stronger and make it more interesting. I am using the advice my peers gave me and making sure and recording everything I do to make my project strong. My peers liked the idea of using real life things and the way the project will look after it is finished. I have been looking at the ideas my peers gave me and I have taken some as ideas. I want my project to get a good grade and have it show people what I am doing without telling them. I am able to ask people what they think and what I should change to make my project better and make people interested in my project. I want my project to stand out and make people know the story and make people want to ask what the story means to me. My project is what people are going to look at and ask questions and make them want to know more about what is going on. This critique was very helpful because my group gave me ideas about what to do to make my project better and make my project have a god grade. I ask the people in my group about how I can make it better and how I can make people want to ask questions and wonder what this project is really about.
Idea
Expectation vs. Reality of a boy and girl in a toy box
Exhibition Text
This mixed media I wanted to show people how people expect boys and girls to be compared to how they really are. I want to show people that a boy is not going to be the way you want them to, they have a mindset on what they want to do. Same with a girl she isn't going to be what people want her to be. I want to use objects that i find around the house or in child objects to create this piece. I want to use things that are for boys and for girls.
Meaning
The meaning behind this piece is to show that boys and girls aren't what people expect them to be. People want a boy and a girl to be a certain way but when they get older they change and people need to notice that. Boys and girls aren't going to be the way you want them to be, they have their own mind and they are going to be the way they want to be. Not every boy and every girl is going to be the way someone wants them to be. They will act like that when they are young but when they get older they are going to start finding themselves and learning that they are their own person and no one can tell them how to act and what to look like. In this generation people are telling people how to act and some people are starting to find themselves and notice that they aren't the person you tell them to be.
Process and Planning
I created a sketch on how I want the canvases to look and how they are going to be set up. I want my canvases to tell a story without me telling it. I am deciding to put the toys into a toy box to show that a kid is exspected to be something but they can pick what they want to be.
Artist Inspiration
My inspiration wasnt tied around and artist. I wanted to do something that affects me and the people around me. I have been noticing people want a boy and a girl to be a certain way and they chose their own way of life. I tied my piece around the culture that a boy and girl can chose what they want to do. I also wanted to make a piece that involved kids and how the environment is affecting them. I wanted the inspiration to come from what I believe in and what people should let a child do.
Reflection
I liked the way this project turned out. My piece shows what I wante to get across and it shows what the meaning of my piece is. Overall I wouldnt change a thing. This piece is something I could express in many different ways. My piece can show people multiple meaning and people can create their own meaning for this piece. The way I was able to show the meaning of my piece without telling someone was my strongest point. I liked the way I set up the toy box and the way I was able to put the toys in to look like a kid was in the box moving things around.
ACT Connection
- Clearly explain how you are able to identify the cause-effect relationships between your inspiration and its effect upon your artwork: My inspiration was about children and how society affects them and what this generation wants them to be. I wanted to show that people want kids to be a certain way and act a certain way but kids can chose the path they want to go.
- What is the overall approach (pov) the author (from research) has regarding the topic of your inspiration? Kids can chose the path they want to go on and parents dont need to make the kids decisions for them. Kids can pick their own path to go on.
- What kind of generalizations and conclusions have you discovered about people, ideas, cultures, etc. while you researched your inspiration? Many people chose their kids paths for them and a lot of kids dont get to do what they want to do.
- What was the central idea or theme around your inspirational research? Kids have the right to decide what path they want to chose. They also have the right to decided what toys they pick and what their future looks like.
- What kind of inferences did you make while reading your research? Not many kids can chose the path they would like to go on. Kids also cant chose what future they have.
UWM Critique
After the UWM critique I knew what I needed to change to make my piece better. My critique showed that I need to paint the toys half blue and half pink to show that a boy and a girl can chose which toy they want to play with and which path they want to go on. Overall I like the critique because it showed me that I can make my piece better and have people understand what the piece is without looking at the meaning. I want people to be able to look at the piece and think of their own meaning behind the piece. UWM really helped me make my piece better and make sure people are going to be interested in it. It also helped me because I can have people create their own meaning for my piece by looking at the toys and the box.
