Time never stops
Exhibition text
Time Never Stops is about how everything revolves around time and you can’t stop time no matter what. I used Salvador Dali for this piece because he used real objects and make them either deformed or he painted them with abnormal objects. I wanted to take a clock and put it behind the moon to show how space also revolves around time. Meaning space never stops moving if time would stop. I created a painting because I wanted to base my inspiration off of how Salvador Dali creates paintings.
Meaning
The meaning of Time Never Stops is that people can’t change time no matter what. Time will always go around and it can’t stop for someone. I wanted to put it behind a moon to show that time is in space and everything that goes around in space and on earth wont be able to stop time. Also that everything revolves around time meaning people do things at a (certain) time and that everything happens during a time. I wanted to create a painting showing that time is even in space because it takes time for things to move in space. I wanted to create this piece because I wanted to show that people can't stop time like they say they can. I wanted to create this to show that time is like space and no one can stop or change time.
Artist Inspiration
My artist inspiration is Salvador Dali. His work involves Surrealism works, he has painted many works such as The Persistence of Memory and Living on The Moon. His two works i decided to use as inspiration were those two because I wanted to create a piece that showed the time is never stopping and I decided to do it with a moon and a star because time is like space it is constantly going and you can't stop it no matter what. Also because there is no way to freeze or change time. His first work The Persistence of Memory meaning is that people can start dreaming in the light time and all of a sudden wake up from their dream and it be night time. He is showing that meaning by the melting clocks because when you dream your body relaxes and you start to dream at a certain time and wake up at a different time. The meaning behind Living on the Moon is that Dali once said he would like to live on the crescent moon so he decided to make a piece with the moon have houses on it. My cultural inspiration is surrealism because I painted a clock with a moon and usually you don't see a clock behind the moon. I wanted to show that the clock was with the moon and add some surrealism to the piece. I knew that the clock and the moon would show off as surrealism so I based my piece around it.

Planning
The first thing I wanted to do was create a planning sketch to see what I wanted to do and what I wanted the painting to look like. I made two sketches to see which one I liked better and which one actually fit around the idea I wanted to do. I decided on doing the first planning sketch because I liked the way the clock looked behind the moon. I didn’t want to do the second one because I didn’t like the way the continents would of looked on the clock. After I decided what sketch to do I sketched it out onto my canvas and started painting.
The first planning sketch is the one I decided to do. This first sketch shows the way I wanted to make the piece look. I wanted the go for a night time theme and have a black background to make it look like night time and have the moon, star, and clock stand out. I decided to do this sketch because of the way it turned out and the way it fits with the idea I wanted to do.
The second planning sketch is the same theme but I added the continents from the earth into the clock. When I was drawing this I decided not to do this one because of the way the continents would look.
Process
The first thing I did was grab my canvas and paint the background black because I want it to represent night time. The next thing I did was paint the base of my clock to let the numbers and hands show. I then painted the numbers and the hands onto the base of the clock. I did two coats for the numbers because the black paint was to thin for the numbers. I then started painting the moon using a grey color and did about three coats for the moon so no colors showed. The final thing I did was paint two stars next to the moon to show night time. The whole painting took a couple coats a paint to finish so I wouldn't have to worry about any colors showing through that aren't supposed to. Overall the painting was difficult to do because of the way I was making the clock and moon but also because my hand was shaky. I was able to finish the way the piece looks and the way it is presented.
Reflection
Overall I like the way the project turned out. I like the way the moon and the stars look by the clock and how the clock is hidden but you can still see it. The two things I would change is the way the background looked and the way the clock looked. I would change the background because originally I wanted to put a galaxy background but the paint wasn’t blending right and the colors didn’t look right, so I just painted it black. I would also change the way the clock looks because I would make it look more like a clock but a pocket watch. I wouldn’t change the way the moon and stars look because to me they look perfect and the fit in what I wanted to do. In the end I will be changing the way the clock looks and try to change the background. I want it to actually look like a clock and the way the background looks.
ACT Connection
Clearly explain how you are able to identify the cause effect relationship between your inspiration and its effect on your artwork
My artwork shows that I base the piece off of Dali’s work and the meaning behind both pieces goes along with the meaning I have on time. Dali’s works have strong meaning to them and I am able to also have a strong meaning with my piece.
What is the overall approach the author has regarding the topic of your inspiration?
The author’s overall approach was to show what the meaning was behind Dali’s work and how it can have an impact on other people by looking at his pieces. The author also wanted people to know why Dali has that meaning for his pieces and what he related them to.
What kind of generalizations and conclusions have you discovered about people, ideas, culture, etc. while you researched your inspiration?
I have came to the conclusion that people make work that has a stronger meaning behind it than what people think. Also that people create works to help people understand what is going on either in the world or in their life.
What is the central idea or theme around your inspirational research?
The centeral idea around my research was time and how people can’t change it no matter what. Also that people can have a stronger meaning behind something that doesn’t seem like it would mean anything.
What kind of inferences did you make while reading your research?
The inferences I made while doing my research was that people make work to express their feelings. Dali for example painted and drew things that had a deeper meaning than what we thought.
