This piece focuses on how people can get to pressured into doing something and how being pressured can make you start thinking about actually doing it. I wanted to show how people pressure me into doing things and it gets me to think about if i should do it or not. My inspiration was surrealism and how you can take an everyday thing and turn it into a piece that shows what you think like and how others make you think. I didn't have an artists I focused on because I wanted to focus on the overall theme of surrealism.
Meaning
The meaning behind my piece is everyone can be controlled by something and their mind is the one thing that will be controlled. I put in things that people pressured me into doing. I put drugs, alcohol, weapons, and the earth because those are things that scare me and i usually get pressure into doing things like that. I have never done anything someone has pressured me into doing because those things scare me. In my last painting i put the brain with everything I like and everything people force me to do to show that people start to think about things people pressure them into and the things they love to do and love seem to fade away. I wanted people to see how its okay to be pressured into something but all you need to know is the word "NO."
Inspiration
The art movement I chose focus on was surrealism. Surrealism uses real life things and turns them into dreams and reality. I wanted to use what happened to me and turn it into a surrealism piece to show that things people go through are reality and you cant escape it like a dream. I wanted to show that you can create anything using real life problems. I wanted to use surrealism to make my piece, I can take a real life problem and turn it into a painting or a picture using surrealism.
Planning
I made my sketch first and added ideas into the sketch as I was deciding on how I wanted it to look. As I was making the sketch i asked my friends what else I should add to my sketch. After I decided what I wanted in the piece I painted a back ground on all three of my canvases. I chose different colors to do because of what each of them mean. The first canvas I chose a purple because that's my favorite color and because that's the canvas that was about me. The second canvas I decided to do a blueish grey to show that those are the things I am scared of and those are the things the environment does. The last canvas I decided to go with a red because it shows battle. My third canvas shows the things I am fighting to get the things the environment does out of my brain so they don't have an affect on me.
Process
The first thing I did was decide how I wanted my canvases to look. I wanted them to be on top of each other to show that its and occurring event. After I decided what I wanted as the back ground color. I painted a back ground on all three of my canvases.
Experimentation
I experimented with a couple different colors to see what would look better for my piece and how everything should be put in my piece. I experimented with six colors to see which three I wanted for the backgrounds. I also was experimenting with where I wanted to put everything in my piece. I wanted to see how my canvases would look before I started painting. I used the sketch I made and put some colors on it to see which colors I liked better.
Reflection
Overall I liked the way my piece turned out. It shows me and what the environment does to me. I would of changed the way the brain looks. Instead of just putting a line down the middle I would of out the line broken to show that the brain is fitting. I liked the way the colors look on the piece. I feel like it makes what is really there pop out and make you want to look at it more. I like how I added the earth because people will ask why I put it there and it makes people really think the world has come to. I like the colors I chose for this piece and the way the bottom brain looks. I made the right side of the bottom brain blurry to show the things you are start to fade away when you think about bad or hurtful things. The way i put the things I am in the third piece is what I really like because it shows that they are starting to fade away as I think more about what the environment does. If i were to do this again I would change the way the bottom piece looks and make it into where the two sides of the brain are fighting to get the whole brain, to control my mind.
ACT Connection
- Since surrealism used real life things and turned them into works of art, that is what I decided to do. I wanted to take my brain and make something to show what i think of and how I think. I took ideas of surrealism brains to help me come up with this piece.
- Surrealism wants to resolve the ideas of dream and reality. I wanted to show people that this piece is what reality really is and it isn't a dream.
- People want to think that things that happen are just a dream and they will go away but it is actually reality. People wanted to think that reality was good and nothing bad happens, that bad things only happen in dreams.
- I wanted to focus on surrealism. Reality is setting in and people need to know that this isn't a dream. My piece shows that the environment I am in is not a dream and that it is slowly setting in that is is actual reality.
- I made a conclusion that reality isn't what people really think it is. The environment around us affects people in different ways and it's not a dream.
