The cold beauty of life
Exhibition text and meaning
I want to create this piece because I want to show people that you can take anything and turn it into art. My piece shows that not all beauty has to be shown or on a face. Beauty can be shown anywhere on anything. I also wanted to show people that you can represent life through anything, it doesn't matter what it is. I wanted to show this through cans because people use common things so I wanted to use something that not a lot of people use. To me the cans represent life and the flowers represent beauty. My inspiration for this is Veronika Richterova. She created plants out of plastic bottles and I wanted to use her idea of making plants out of recycled materials. This idea came to me when I seen her work and I wanted to do something like hers but with a different material. The cold beauty of life shows that beauty can be shown anyway and it doesn't matter what it looks like. Everything is beautiful and everything has life. People hide true beauty but that's the meaning of life, beauty represents life and people need to express more beauty in the world.
Idea
Metal rose and other flowers -made out of cans
Inspiration
Planning
When I was planning this idea I wanted to make something that involved flowers and recycled objects. I made a couple sketches on how I want this to look and turn out. I decided to make two roses and the rest regular everyday flowers. I wanted to have a variety because the meaning behind my piece is beauty and life. A better way to show that is use cans to make multiple flowers representing beauty and the cans represent life. The sketches I made i scaled to be the size I want the flowers to look and what cans I am going to use for them. The cans are going to be easy to cut but I have to be careful not to cut myself or anything else.
Process
I am collecting cans to make this piece. I am using four-six soda cans and. The soda cans are going to make regular common flowers and roses. I want to create a couple flowers. I am going to wash out the cans because I need to cut them open and I don't want them to be sticky. I am using a knife to cut them and to cut the shapes of the flower. I am starting to cut the cans to make the flowers. I want to make multiple colors and different types of flowers. The cans are going to represent the coldness and the flowers are going to represent life.
I started with a cut soda can and started making the shapes of the petal. I then took my knife and cut put the shape of the flower petal, I made four petals on one flower and five petals on the last two. I wanted to use a variety so I decided to make one big flower and two small flowers with different soda cans. While doing this I had to be careful so I wouldn't cut myself and I decided to wear finger protection to make sure I wouldn't hurt myself.
Artist Inspiration
My inspiration was Veronika Richterová. I chose her because she used recycled bottles to create her pieces. I wanted to use her because her piece showed me that you can take recycled pieces and turn them into art. The cold beauty of life shows that you can take recycled items and turn the into beautiful works of art. My piece shows that you can take anything and turn them into any day items or beautiful pieces. My artist showed me that anything you use can be a piece of art.
Reflection
Overall I feel like I did good on this project. I liked the way the piece turned out with the shape of the flowers. The only thing I would change is the way the flower petal looked, the petals are sharp and I would file them down and make them smooth and neat. I had trouble gluing the petals to each other because the glue wouldn't dry right away and the glue would stick to other things like the paper and my fingers. I would do this project again but this time I will try and make a rose to see how it would look and I would create stems for the flowers to have them stand up. This project was fun for me and I had some times where I just wanted to give up but I started finding an easier way and I was able to do the project quicker and easier. This project was one of the projects I would extent on and do more to it.
ACT Connection
- Clearly explain how you are able to identify the cause-effect relationships between your inspiration and its effect upon your artwork My inspiration helped me find what I wanted to do. My work shows how I had inspirations from Veronika Richterová. Her work helped me show what I wanted to do and showed me how you can make anything that people think is garbage into art.
- What is the overall approach (pov) the author (from research) has regarding the topic of your inspiration? Anything that someone thinks is trash could be art for another person. Also you could turn anything that is trash into and amazing work of art. My inspiration was about how anything you see can be art and trash could be art.
- What kind of generalizations and conclusions have you discovered about people, ideas, cultures, etc. while you researched your inspiration? People think that trash is just nothing and it just gets thrown away but some people take that trash and turn it into something else. A lot of people have ideas about trash and what they can turn it into.
- What was the central idea or theme around your inspirational research? Trash can be turned into art and it could have a deeper meaning behind it. Also anyone artist could take trash or anything people don't use and turn it into something people would use or what people would like.
- What kind of inferences did you make while reading your research? I was able to see that many artists use trash and turn them into a work of art and they can make a deep meaning behind the trash that they use.
